Best Lipstick For Sensitive Lips

The Art of Articulating Lipsticks

Welcome To The Articulate Lipstick Society, Where Lipsticks Can Talk. In this episode, listen to me whine about love, life, friends and frenemies to the tune of Bizet’s Habenera.

Woe is me the failed opera singer. Over the 2 long, arduous years of classical voice training, one of the songs I perfected was Habenera. This was my favourite from Bizet’s Carmen. I thought I sounded good. In my own head when I offered to give my dinner guests an impromptu performance until I saw… their…facial expressions. As I recounted my love affair with love itself in eloquent french. The slightly raised brows which I initially read as surprise (ooh, maybe I sounded too good?) turned into hmmm.. higher raised brows…hmmm. Looks like they are now  amazed? Just before I saw their faces morph… into those of my friends trying really hard to suppress their laughter.

On that note, isn’t this one of the reasons why I am glad my friends didn’t have botox- or at least recently? Otherwise I wouldn’t know better and may have carried on in my public displays of hilarity. I may have even wiped out my personal fortune embarking on a new found career as an opera singer!

Let me begin with why I love the song Habenera. The first stanza of the song goes something like this. Love is a rebellious bird that nobody can tame, and you call him, and quite in vain, if it suits him not to come, nothing helps, neither threat or prayer. One man talks well, the others mum, its the other one I prefer. He’s silent but I like his looks. L’amour. L’amour.

In my head, whenever I sang this song, I would imagine a pretty tiny little bird. In the form of my orange feathered canary Guiness, fluttering around in floral paradise. And there I was, a buxom Soprano star dressed in ethereal white. Talking to herself, playing a game of he loves me, he loves me not. With a white carnation. As you know, it is said that the Greek goddess Diana once rejected a Shepherd boy who died from misery. The tears he shed eventually led to the blooming of white carnations, signifiying purity and innocence. The pure white color of petals symbolising all manner of genuineness and sincerity.

I realised after a few renditions to different groups of dinner guests that my teacher was likely adept at hiding his true emotions- giving me the illusion that I was actually doing well. But afterall, he had likely hundreds of students that sang terribly. And it wouldn’t be good for his business or professional image to be in stitches every time they sang.

Anyway, this marks the start of the bone I had to pick with people who did not show their genuine emotions on their face. Or maybe.. after hours, days, weeks years of listening to bad singing, he did manage to master the art of empathy. Well, he was undeniably the best opera teacher in town. But truly, why did he not buckle over in stitches every time I sang, unlike my friends?

Well, at this stage, one must take the time to appreciate true friends who mock and laugh at you, rather than with you. At least, they are doing it right in front of your botoxed face. Oh by the way, even though you may know me as a dermatologist, on record, I have never ever had botox or fillers or any such injections, because I, desire to always portray my true emotions to my friends, enemies and frenemies. Imagine not being able to get rid of someone you dislike because every time you tell them off your face is frozen in time?

On that note, I know some of you know it alls will raise your hand and say, “ohhh she doesn’t know about mini botox, the sophisticated technique used to give miniscule amounts all over the face in multiple bloody injections that gives the face a natural tweakment without any one knowing.” Excuse me, in my past life, I was giving all these injections myself. But of course, being the good doctor I was, I would only offer those to people that requested it. I was not in the business of convincing people to get it, or imposing my private opinions in a professional setting.. the idea that some wrinkles are to be embraced and that some people are more likeable, especially after a certain age with some wrinkles on their faces, that, is a matter of personal opinion.

Anyway this podcast has nothing to do with dermatology or medicine, so I detract. The name of this podcast is the Articulate Lipstick Society, do you like the name? I came up with it. Now what exactly does that mean? Can lipsticks talk? Well, welcome to my show, where I teach you how to be more beautiful, one lipstick at a time.
